HIVE Digital to Establish AI Data Hub in Toronto with 7.2 MW Facility
HIVE Digital Technologies has secured a 7.2-megawatt data center in Toronto, positioning it as a foundational asset for AI infrastructure through its subsidiary BUZZ HPC. The facility, slated to become BUZZ HPC's first Tier 3 data center, will undergo upgrades to incorporate liquid cooling and accommodate up to 5,000 next-generation GPUs. This infrastructure is designed to facilitate large-scale AI model training and inference while supporting Canadian enterprise and government workloads.
"The Toronto site provides a sovereign AI data center owned and operated by a Canadian public company," said Craig Tavares, President and COO of BUZZ HPC. The MOVE aligns with global efforts to bolster national AI capabilities amid surging demand for high-performance computing.
HIVE's pivot from cryptocurrency mining to AI and cloud services underscores the broader industry trend of repurposing infrastructure for next-generation computing needs. The acquisition marks BUZZ HPC's inaugural step into facility ownership, signaling a strategic shift toward renewable-powered data solutions.
